Hampton attended a private school in Knights Bridge, and Queen’s College at Cambridge. He was a chorister at St. Barnabas, Pimlico, Scotland, and in 1856 became choir master in Tenbury. He was ordained in 1862, and became assistant curate at St. Michael’s, and was ordained a priest in 1862, but stayed in Tenbury assisting Frederick Gore-Ouseley. In 1889, he became second Warden of St. Michael’s, Tenbury, and in 1916 was made a Fellow of the College.
