Biography

John was the son of Ste­phen Yates Ham­mond and Mar­tha Adams, and hus­band of Sar­ah Eli­za­beth Pow­ers (1843–1918).

A min­is­ter like his fa­ther, he served in the Gen­es­ee (now West­ern New York) Con­fer­ence, the Wis­con­sin and Ne­va­da Con­fer­ence, and the Ca­li­for­nia Con­fer­ence of the Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal Church.
