Born: November 27, 1878, Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, England.
Died: January 10, 1963, Clacton, Essex, England.
John was the son of Thomas Hands and Emma Dawson.
The 1901 census lists him as an ironmonger’s assistant and organist
(presumably holding down two jobs).
An Associate of the Royal College of Organists, he played the organ at St. Paul’s Wesleyan Chapel, Bedford, Bedfordshire, England, as of 1904.
The 1911 census shows he had moved from Bedford and was a schoolmaster in Shebbear, North Devon.
