Hardy was the son of Thomas Hardy and Jemima Hand. He married twice, to Emma Gifford (1874, Kensington) and Florence Emily Dugdale (1914).
A well known author, poet, and some time architect, he became a member of Britain’s Order of Merit in 1910, and was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature twenty-five times.
