Buried: Ash­es were in­terred in Po­ets’ Cor­ner, West­min­ster Ab­bey, Lon­don. His heart rests in St. Mi­chael’s church­yard, Stins­ford, Dor­set, Eng­land.

Biography

Hardy was the son of Tho­mas Har­dy and Je­mi­ma Hand. He mar­ried twice, to Em­ma Gif­ford (1874, Ken­sing­ton) and Flor­ence Em­ily Dug­dale (1914).

A well known au­thor, po­et, and some time ar­chi­tect, he be­came a mem­ber of Bri­tain’s Order of Mer­it in 1910, and was no­mi­nat­ed for the No­bel Prize in Li­te­ra­ture twen­ty-five times.
