Died: Ap­ril 8, 1917.

Biography

Henry was the son of Ed­ward Hawkes, min­is­ter of the Mark­et Place Cha­pel in Kendal.

He went to Li­ver­pool at age 16 to en­ter business, and joined the Ren­shaw Street Cha­pel there. In 1859, the North End Do­mes­tic Mis­sion was e­stablish­ed in Li­ver­pool, and in 1871 Hawkes became its Mis­sion­ary Min­is­ter, stay­ing there 16 years.

He al­so served with an Am­er­ican Uni­ta­ri­an mis­sion in Ja­pan, at the Boo­tle Free Church (1891–1900), and at the West Kir­by Free Church (1906–13).
