Fredrik’s father was a sheriff, and both grandfathers were priests in Ostrobothnia.
He attended the Royal Academy of Turku, earning a master’s degree in philosophy and theology.
He was ordained a Lutheran pastor in 1834, and became a curate in Siuntio, and later in Lohja.
He was involved in the usual theological debates of his time, first accepting, then eventually abandoning Pietism.
