Biography

Daughter of a watch­mak­er, Heede stu­died in Pa­ris, where she lived with a Me­tho­dist fa­mi­ly and be­came a pro­fess­ing Chris­tian.

When she re­turned to Nor­way, she be­came a tu­tor at a girls school in Ar­en­dal. In 1874 she was called to Kris­ti­a­nia (Os­lo), and the Me­tho­dist pub­lish­ing house and schools. She taught fu­ture preach­ers in Eng­lish and Nor­we­gian, ed­it­ed the Sun­day school pa­per Den lille børn­ev­en, and trans­lated books for the Me­tho­dist pub­lish­ing house.

Around this, time she started trans­lat­ing hymns and Gos­pel songs from Eng­lish in­to Nor­we­gian, in­tro­duc­ing Ira San­key and oth­ers to Nor­we­gian au­di­enc­es. She wrote and trans­lat­ed more than 200 hymns.
