Biography

Claudia was the daugh­ter of Will­iam Hay­wood Ib­ot­son (1814–1873), an Ang­li­can priest and some­time vicar of Ed­win­stowe, Not­ting­hams­hire, and wife of John Will­iam Dun­combe Her­na­man (1826-1905), a min­is­ter and school in­spect­or (mar­ried Sep­tem­ber 1858).

She took an av­id in­ter­est in child­ren’s re­li­gious edu­ca­tion, and some of her trans­la­tions of La­tin hymns were spe­ci­fi­cal­ly for child­ren.
