Hicks, a pro­mi­nent law­yer, was the son of Mark Moore Hicks and Ca­the­rine Eli­za­beth Mary Bay­less, hus­band of Su­san Ker­ran­hap­pu­ech Col­tharp, and fa­ther of Ira Hicks, Sr.
