Hirschler attended Pomona College, Claremont, California; the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and Arts; and the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago, Illinois. He headed the organ and theory departments at Albion College, Michigan (1916–17); the organ department at Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa (1917–19); and was head of piano, organ and theory instruction at the California Christian College, Los Angeles. He served as organist at the Church of the Open Door, Los Angeles; First Presbyterian Church; Westminster Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; First Methodist Episcopal Church, Albion, Michigan; Buena Presbyterian Church, Chicago, Illinois; and the First Presbyterian Church, Upland, California.
