Biography

Otto was the son of John S. Hirsch­ler and Chris­tine Schmidt.

He at­tend­ed Po­mo­na Col­lege, Clare­mont, Ca­li­for­nia; the Los An­ge­les Con­ser­va­to­ry of Mu­sic and Arts; and the Am­eri­can Con­ser­va­tory of Mu­sic, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois.

He head­ed the or­gan and the­ory de­part­ments at Al­bi­on Col­lege, Mi­chi­gan (1916–17); the or­gan de­part­ment at Coe Col­lege, Ce­dar Ra­pids, Io­wa (1917–19); and was head of pi­ano, or­gan and the­ory in­struc­tion at the Ca­li­for­nia Chris­tian Col­lege, Los An­ge­les.
