Biography

A jour­nal­ist, au­thor, po­et and lec­tur­er, Hodg­es wrote a col­umn called The Op­ti­mist for the Phi­la­del­phia North Am­eri­can (now the Phi­la­del­phia In­quir­er).

He worked with Emi­ly Bis­sell to in­tro­duce Christ­mas Seals to raise funds and aware­ness for lung dis­eas­es such as tu­ber­cu­losis. The Penn­syl­van­ia State Me­di­cal So­ci­ety gave him its Ben­ja­min Rush Aw­ard in 1952.
