Biography

William was the son of Al­ex­an­der Hud­nutt and Ly­dia Par­ker, and hus­band of Har­ri­et Shew Beech­er. His grand­son, Will­iam Her­bert Hud­nut III, served in the U.S. House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives, then for four terms as may­or of In­di­an­apo­lis, In­di­ana (1976–92).

He gra­du­at­ed from Prince­ton Uni­ver­si­ty in 1886, and in 1962, be­came the old­est liv­ing alum­nus of Prince­ton. Two of his sons and se­ven grand­sons a­lso at­tend­ed Prince­ton.

In 1895, Hud­nut was pas­tor of the Fish House Pres­by­ter­ian Church, North­amp­ton, New York. Both his sons and two grand­sons were Pres­by­ter­ian min­is­ters like him.
