Biography

Amélie was the daugh­ter of Ai­mé Hum­bert-Droz and Ma­rie Müll­er.

She grew up in Neu­châ­tel, and in her youth, was ac­tive with the Sal­va­tion Ar­my. She was pri­vate sec­re­ta­ry of Jo­se­phine But­ler (1876–85), op­pos­ed the of­fi­cial re­gu­la­tion of pros­ti­tu­tion, and fol­lowed her mo­ther in the move­ment for mor­al re­cov­ery.

She served as sec­re­ta­ry (1888–1915), then vice-pre­si­dent (1915–25) of the In­ter­na­tion­al Un­ion of the Friends of the Girl and ed­it­or of its jour­nal, Le Jour­nal du Bien Pub­lic.
