Biography

Pierce was the son of Al­fred Mar­ion Hum­phries and Lou­isa Eli­za White­field.

He spent his ear­ly life in the Mo­he­gan com­mun­ity (Arkansas?), where he at­tended the lo­cal school. He then en­rolled at the East Tex­as State Teach­ers Col­lege in Com­merce, Tex­as (school was re­named as the East Tex­as State Col­lege in 1957, and later as the East Tex­as A&M Uni­vers­ity).

Around 1915, he moved to No­co­na, Texas, where he was pas­tor of the Cum­ber­land Pres­by­terian Church. Around 1920, he moved to a pas­tor­ate in Floy­da­da, Tex­as.
