Biography

Hunnicutt was the son of James Ed­ward P. Hun­ni­cutt and Mar­tha Lun­die At­kin­son, and hus­band of Eli­za Ma­gru­der.

A min­is­ter, he be­longed to the Mis­sis­sip­pi Con­fer­ence of the Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal Church, South (1861–1910).

He was also Pro­fess­or of An­cient Lang­uag­es at Ma­di­son Col­lege, Sha­ron, Mis­sis­sip­pi. Will­iam Hart­well, who wrote the mu­sic for Hun­ni­cutt’s I’ll Re­joice, taught at the same school.
