Biography

Ireland was edu­cat­ed at the Roy­al Col­lege of Mu­sic, where he stu­died un­der Charles Stan­ford.

He served as or­gan­ist at All Saints’, Tuff­nell Park (1897–99); St. Jude’s, Up­per Chel­sea (1899–1904); Ho­ly Tri­ni­ty, Sloane Square; and for 22 years at St. Luke’s, Up­per Chel­sea.

Durham award­ed him an hon­or­ary Doc­tor of Mu­sic de­gree in 1932.
