Jervois was the son of William Francis Drummond Jervois (later a lieutenant general).
He was educated at Rugby and at Trinity College, Oxford (BA 1876, MA 1878).
He was ordained an Anglican deacon in 1878, and priest in 1879. He became vicar of St. Mary Magdalene, Munster Square, London, in 1896.
Until his death, he was a member of the committee that compiled The English Hymnal of 1906.
