Son of Thomas Jex-Blake of Burn­well, Eng­land, Tho­mas was ed­u­cat­ed at Rug­by, and at Un­i­ver­si­ty Coll­ege, Ox­ford (BA in first class 1855, DD 1873). He was some time Fel­low of Queen’s Coll­ege, Ox­ford; As­sist­ant Mas­ter at Rug­by (1858-68); Prin­ci­pal of Chel­ten­ham Coll­ege (1868-74); Head Mas­ter of Rug­by (1874-87); Rec­tor of Ave­church, Red­ditch (1887); and Dean of Wells (1891).
