Biography

John was the son of son of James John­son and Hel­en Lou­ise Dill­et, hus­band of No­ra Eth­el Floyd, and bro­ther of James John­son.

He at­tend­ed Atl­an­ta Uni­ver­si­ty and the New Eng­land Con­ser­va­to­ry of Mu­sic, Bos­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

He and his bro­ther James be­longed to the song writ­ing team of [Bob] Cole and John­son Bro­thers, writ­ing ov­er 200 songs.

He al­so ed­it­ed a num­ber of col­lect­ions of Af­ri­can-Am­er­ican mu­sic.
