Darius was the son of musician Abner Jones.
In 1854, he and George Webb became assistant editors with Lowell Mason, working on the periodical The Choral Advocate. At the time, Jones was music director at Plymouth Church in Brooklyn (John Zundel was then organist).
Jones later edited the Congregational Herald in Chicago, Illinois, then graduated from Iowa College and served pastorates in Columbus City and Newton Center, Iowa.
In 1863, he became treasurer of the Iowa General Association, and afterward worked for the American Bible Association.
If you know where to get a good photo of Jones (head & shoulders, at least 200×300 pixels),
