Born: 1722, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.
Died: April 15, 1765.
Edmund was the son of Philip Jones of Cheltenham.
He spent much of his boyhood in Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, where his father was pastor of a Baptist church.
He attended for a time the Baptist College at Bristol. At age 19, he began to preach for the Baptist congregation in Exeter, and two years later became its pastor.
It seems his church first introduced singing as part of worship in 1759, during his tenure. According to John Rippon, Jones also pastored at the Baptist church in Exon, Devonshire.
