Isaiah was the husband of Ruth Annie Gaddis.
He entered military service in the American civil war at age 19, as a musician in the 120th and 169th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged in 1863 on a surgeon’s certificate of disability.
Some time after the war, he became a Lutheran minister.
At the time of the Spanish American War, he re-entered the military as a chaplain with the 8th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He died of a heart attack while in military service.
