Jacob was the son of Jacob Kimball and Priscilla Smith.
He graduated from Harvard College in 1780. He studied law with Judge Wetmore of Salem, Massachusetts, and was admitted to the bar in Strafford, New Hampshire, in 1795.
He taught music in many New England towns, composed vocal music, and wrote a little poetry.
