It is surmised she married William J, Demorest in New York City, and she became a good seamstress and an author.
In 1881 she wrote An Illustrated Sewing Primer with Songs and Music for Schools and Families. It was about basic sewing and dressmaking. Another book, School Sewing, was also published.
Kirkwood also patented a school sewing system box in 1887.
