Aaron was the son of Jacob Ziegler Kolb and Maria Bowman, and husband of Phoebe Mumaw.
Around 1888, he moved to Elkhart, Indiana, where he worked with the Mennonite Publishing Company owned by John F. Funk. He later served as first secretary of the Elkhart Institute (later Goshen College).
In 1907 he moved to Herbert, Saskatchewan (where he farmed and was the first postmaster), and in 1931 to Kitchener.
