Elijah was the husband of Louisa Ella White.
He was a Methodist Episcopal clergyman in the Northwest Indiana Conference. He was an itinerant minister for 43 years, and served 23 charges, many of them being large circuits. Shortly before his death, he was a Prohibitionist nominee for Congress from Indianapolis.
