Alphus was the son of Silas Abraham LaFever and Martha Jane James LeFevre.
He was a singer, song writer, composer, arranger, pianist, accordionist, guitarist, and violinist.
He belonged to the LeFevre Trio and the Bible Training School Quartet, and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
