Biography

Harold was the son of Will­iam Hen­ry Lew­ars and Va­ler­ia M. Steck, and hu­sband of El­sie Sing­mas­ter (mar­ried 1912). Some called El­sie Get­tys­burg’s First La­dy of Let­ters and Ad­ams Coun­ty’s Most Dis­ting­uished Daugh­ter.

Harold gra­du­ated from Get­tys­burg Col­lege in 1903, then be­came an as­sist­ant pro­fesso­r of Eng­lish there. He al­so con­duct­ed the Get­tys­burg Ora­to­rio So­ci­ety.
