Louisa was the daughter of Caleb William Loring and Elizabeth Smith Peabody.
She lived most of her life with her sister Katherine in Prides Crossing, Massachusetts.
She was Emergency Secretary for the Massachusetts Red Cross, and was founder and president of Aiken Cottages, a South Carolina tuberculosis sanitarium.
She and Katherine helped many causes, including the Beverly Anti-Tuberculosis Society, aid for the victims of the Great Salem Fire of 1914, and aid for Bulgarian school children.
