Biography

Nicol’s fa­ther was min­is­ter of the Unit­ed Free Church at Loch­ran­za.

Nicol was educated at Glas­gow High School, the Uni­vers­ity of Glas­gow (MA 1891, DLitt 1911, DD 1928), and the Unit­ed Free Church Theo­lo­gic­al Col­lege in Glas­gow.

In 1895, he was or­dained a mis­sion­ary to In­dia. He spent six years at Wil­son Col­lege, Bom­bay (now Mumbai, मुंबई), and in 1901 moved to the Unit­ed Free Church Miss­ion in Poo­na (now Pune, पुणे).

In 1928, he served as Sec­re­ta­ry of the Na­tional Christ­ian Coun­cil of In­dia.
