Biography

Jorge was the son of Jorge and Mer­ce­des Mal­do­na­do, and hus­band of Nor­is Ara­que.

He was edu­cat­ed at the Se­min­ar­io Bib­li­co La­ti­no­am­eri­ca­no (ba­che­lor’s de­gree in theo­lo­gy, 1966) and the Cen­tral Uni­vers­ity of Ecua­dor (mas­ter’s de­gree in so­ci­olo­gy). After emi­grat­ing to the Unit­ed States, he con­tin­ued his stu­dies at Full­er Theo­lo­gic­al Sem­in­ary Pa­sa­dena, Ca­li­for­nia, earn­ing a Mas­ter of Theo­lo­gy with an em­pha­sis in mis­si­olo­gy, and a Doc­tor of Min­is­try de­gree.

From 1966–77, he was pro­fess­or of psy­cho­lo­gy at T. W. An­der­son College in Qui­to, Ecu­ador. From 1972–77, he al­so di­rect­or of the theo­lo­gic­al edu­ca­tion de­part­ment for the Evan­gel­ic­al Cov­en­ant Church of Ec­ua­dor.

He sub­se­quent­ly served as in­ter­na­tion­al co­ord­in­at­or of Qui­to-based EI­RENE, the La­tin Am­eri­can As­so­ci­ation for Pas­tor Care and Coun­sel­ing of the Fam­ily.

Two years lat­er, he be­came Gen­er­al Sec­re­ta­ry of the Lat­in Am­eri­can As­so­ci­ation of Theo­lo­gic­al Edu­ca­tion In­sti­tu­tions, based in Guay­aquil and Qui­to.

From 1988–93, he was Ex­ec­utive Sec­re­ta­ry for Fam­ily Edu­ca­tion with the World Coun­cil of Church­es in Ge­ne­va, Swit­zer­land.

From 1993–2005, Jorge was pre­si­dent of the Cen­tro His­pa­no de Es­tu­dios Teo­lo­gi­cos (CHET), Comp­ton, Ca­li­for­nia. He al­so had pas­tor­al roles at the Pri­me­ra Igle­sia del Pac­to Ev­an­gel­ico, Bell Gar­dens, Ca­li­for­nia, and at First Cov­en­ant Church of Los An­ge­les.
