Marckant was incumbent of Clacton Magna (now Great Clacton), Essex (1559) and Shopland (apparently near Southend-on-Sea, Essex) (1563–68), England.
He wrote only few small pieces: a political poem on Lord Wentworth (1558–59); a New Year’s gift entitled With Speed Return to God; and Verses to Divers Good Purposes (circa 1580). He also contributed four entries to the metrical version of the Psalms known as the Old Version.
