There is a Do­min­go Av­i­la Ma­ta (March 28, 1872 to Oc­to­ber 17, 1941), bur­ied in the Mount Hope Ce­me­te­ry, San Di­e­go, Ca­li­for­nia, and min­utes of the 1918 Pres­by­te­ri­an Ge­ne­ral As­sem­bly in­di­cate there was a min­is­ter by that name in San Di­e­go. How­ev­er, we do not know if this is the song write­r.
