Biography

John was the hus­band of Ma­ry Es­telle Doug­lass.

He stu­died mu­sic in the Am­er­ican Mid­west and in Eur­ope, then moved to Salt Lake Ci­ty, Utah, to be­come the Ta­ber­na­cle or­gan­ist (1900–1925) and di­rect­or of the Salt Lake Op­e­ra Com­pa­ny.

King Al­bert I of Bel­gi­um de­co­rat­ed him in ap­pre­ci­a­tion for a re­cit­al played when the king and queen toured Am­er­ica in 1919.
