Biography

Jesse was the son of Rev­er­end Si­las Mer­cer and hus­band of Sa­bri­na Chiv­ers.

He was or­dained a Bap­tist min­is­ter No­vem­ber 7, 1789. He serv­ed pas­tor­ates at Hut­ton Fork (now Sar­dis); In­di­an Creek (1793–?); Sar­dis (1788–1817); Phil­lips’ Mill (1796–1835); What­ley’s Mill (now Be­thes­da) (1796–1827); Ea­ton­ton (1820–26); and Wash­ing­ton (1827–41), all in Geor­gia.

Works

Mercer ed­it­ed The In­dex of Geor­gia Bap­tist Con­ven­tion, and wrote ma­ny ar­ti­cles on theo­lo­gy, Bap­tist his­to­ry, and ec­cles­i­ol­o­gy.
