Miesse’s Sichuan was published in Chicago, Illinois, and Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1880.

It seems likely he is Gabriel Ralph Miesse (1838–1911): G. R. Miesse is buried in Lancaster, Ohio, and his death certificate reports he was a musician.
