Biography

James was the hus­band of Jane Mitch­ell.

A Con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­ter in Not­ting­ham, he served as prin­ci­pal of the Not­ting­ham Con­gre­ga­tion­al In­sti­tute (1897–1903), and sub­se­quent­ly as Sec­re­ta­ry to the Con­gre­ga­tion­al Un­ion.

He wrote a num­ber of hymns for use at an­ni­ver­sa­ries.
