Biography

James was the hus­band of Fran­ces Eliz­abeth Mount­ain.

He at­tend­ed Gain­ford Aca­de­my near Dar­ling­ton, Ro­ther­ham Col­lege, Not­ting­ham In­sti­tute, and Ches­hunt Col­lege.

He then be­came pas­tor at Great Mar­low, Buck­ing­ham­shire.

After leav­ing the cler­ic­al field due to ill health, he con­duc­ted evan­gel­ism cam­paigns in Bri­tain (1874–82) and world­wide (1882–89).
