Biography

Myers was the hus­band of Ida N. Mays.

He attended the Leech­burg Ac­ad­emy and El­der’s Ridge Nor­mal School, and lat­er stu­died music in New York Ci­ty and at the New Eng­land Con­serv­ato­ry in Bos­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

He was a pro­mi­nent mu­sic edu­cat­or, edi­to­r, and com­pos­er ac­tive in the late 1800s and ear­ly 1900s.

Myers was deep­ly in­volved in pub­lic school mu­sic. He was a mu­sic su­per­vis­or in schools, and a fre­quent speak­er at the Ohio State Teach­ers’ As­so­ci­ation, where he ad­vo­cat­ed for bet­ter me­thods of teach­ing sight-sing­ing to child­ren.

He spent three years as or­gan­ist at the First Me­tho­dist Church in Du­luth, Min­ne­so­ta, and served as Di­rect­or of the Mu­sic De­part­ment at Mi­ami Uni­vers­ity, Mi­ami, Ohio, and the Ohio State Nor­mal Col­lege (now Kent State Uni­vers­ity).
