Myers was the husband of Ida N. Mays.
He attended the Leechburg Academy and Elder’s Ridge Normal School, and later studied music in New York City and at the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts.
He was a prominent music educator, editor, and composer active in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Myers was deeply involved in public school music. He was a music supervisor in schools, and a frequent speaker at the Ohio State Teachers’ Association, where he advocated for better methods of teaching sight-singing to children.
He spent three years as organist at the First Methodist Church in Duluth, Minnesota, and served as Director of the Music Department at Miami University, Miami, Ohio, and the Ohio State Normal College (now Kent State University).
