Ora was the son of Absalom L. Newlin and Pernetha Sowers, and husband of Lena Mae Schuetz (or Sheets, sources vary).
The 1880 census shows him in Grove, Jasper County, Illinois. Copyright records indicate he was living in Winona Lake, Indiana, in 1918.
At the time of his death, he was pastor of the San Mateo Presbyterian Church. A 1916 article in the Fort Wayne Sentinel described him as an evangelist of national reputation.
