Biography

Baptist was the 16th of 18 child­ren of Sir Ger­ard No­el and Di­a­na Mid­dle­ton, Bar­on­ess Bar­ham; hus­band of Jane Bail­lie; bro­ther of Ger­ard Noel; and un­cle of Ca­ro­line No­el.

He was edu­cat­ed at West­min­ster School and Tri­ni­ty Col­lege, Cam­bridge, then en­tered the Mid­dle Tem­ple to be­come a barr­is­ter.

Taking Ho­ly Or­ders in 1824, he was for some time in­cum­bent of St. John’s Epis­co­pal Cha­pel, Bed­ford Row, Lon­don, and chap­lain to Queen Vic­tor­ia.

In 1848, he left the Church of Eng­land and sub­se­quent­ly be­came a Bap­tist min­is­ter. He was pas­tor of St. John’s Street Cha­pel, Be­dford Row, un­til 1868.

He twice served as Pre­si­dent of the Bap­tist Un­ion.
