Owen was the hus­band of Mary L. Be­ne­dict.

He gra­du­at­ed from Ob­er­lin Col­lege, Ohio, in 1901. As of 1917, he was as­sist­ant pas­tor of the Se­cond Con­gre­ga­tion­al Church, Wa­ter­bu­ry, Con­nec­ti­cut.
