Pearsall practiced law until 1825, when he suffered a stroke.
He then went to Mainz, Germany, to study music under Joseph Panny. He lived most of the rest of his life outside Britain, even selling his family estate at Willsbridge, Gloucestershire. He lived in Karlsruhe, Germany, for a while, but spent the last years of his life at Wartensee Castle, Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Constance.
He is best remembered for his part songs, orchestral works, anthems, services, madrigals, musical treatises, and editing of a Catholic hymnal.
