Died: June 4, 1888, Rockdale, Texas. Pierce and his wife and two children died in a fire at the Mundine Hotel.
Buried: Emmanuel Methodist Episcopal Cemetery, Penns Grove, New Jersey.
Pemberton was the son of Charles C. Pierce and Ellen L. Pierce, and husband of Rebecca Matilda Curriden.
During the American civil war, he served in Company C, 24th New Jersey Infantry, as a musician, and in Company K, 2nd New Jersey Cavalry.
He was a well known composer, and at the time of his death he represented Ziegler & Company of Philadelphia.
