Biography

Herman was the son of Wil­helm Gus­tav Pol­ack and Ma­ria Eli­za­beth Hasz, hus­band of Wil­hel­mi­ne Stohs, and fa­ther of Will­iam Gust­av Pol­ack.

He be­gan his teach­ing ca­reer in a pub­lic school in East St. Louis, Il­li­nois, lat­er teach­ing in Lu­ther­an schools in St. Lou­is, Mis­sou­ri; Wau­sau, Wis­con­sin; and Cleve­land, Ohio.

He was al­so an or­gan­ist, com­poser and choir di­rect­or, and served on the mu­sic com­mit­tee for The Ev­an­ge­li­cal Lu­ther­an Hymn­book of 1912.
