Biography

Polman emi­grat­ed to Ca­na­da in 1955, and was edu­cat­ed at Dordt Col­lege, Sioux Cen­ter, Io­wa; the Uni­ver­si­ty of Min­ne­so­ta (PhD 1981); and the In­sti­tute for Chris­tian Stu­dies, To­ron­to, Ca­na­da (post gra­du­ate work).

He was a long time pro­fess­or at Re­deem­er Col­lege in Ham­il­ton, On­tar­io, then at Cal­vin Col­lege, Grand Ra­pids, Mi­chi­gan, where he al­so chaired the mu­sic de­part­ment.

He was or­gan­ist and choir­mas­ter at the Oak­land Unit­ed Me­tho­dist Church, Min­ne­ap­olis, Min­ne­so­ta (1969–72) and St. John’s Ang­li­can Church, Mis­sis­sau­ga, On­tar­io, Can­ada.

He served on the Re­vi­sion Com­mit­tee for the Chris­tian Re­formed Church’s 1987 Psal­ter Hym­nal.
