Buried: Orig­in­al­ly in his church (St. Ste­phen’s, Cole­man Street), prob­ab­ly lat­er moved to Brook­wood Ce­me­te­ry (Lon­don Ne­cro­po­lis), Lon­don, Eng­land.

Biography

Josiah was the se­cond son of Birm­ing­ham ma­nu­fac­tur­er Jos­iah Pratt, and hus­band of Eliz­abeth Jow­ett (mar­ried 1797).

He was edu­cat­ed at Barr House school, six miles from Birm­ing­ham. On June 28, 1789 he ma­tri­cu­lated at St. Edm­und Hall, Ox­ford.

He gra­duated from Ox­ford BA and was or­dained a dea­con in 1792, be­coming as­sist­ant cur­ate to Will­iam Jesse, rec­tor of Dowles, near Bewd­ley, Wor­ces­ter­shire.

In 1795, he re­ceived priest’s or­ders, and be­came as­sist­ant min­is­ter un­der Rich­ard Cecil,at St. John’s Cha­pel, Bed­ford Row.
