Ramsey was the father of writer Lillian Fairbrother Ramsey (1877–1974).
For many years he was a well known teacher near Bournemouth.
He retired in 1916. In the last year of his life he was in poor health, but he organized and conducted a choral society in Chichester.
Ramsey was a prolific composer of part-songs and pianoforte pieces. He also wrote hymns and carols, and on musical theory. His other works include:
