Born: May 4, 1870, Lowell, Massachusetts.
Died: December 17, 1926, Swansea, Massachusetts (Boston Globe obituary says December 18, but tombstone says December 17).
Buried: Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord, New Hampshire.
Brian was the son of Daniel Roberts and Katherine Burr, and husband of Sarah Tilton Minot (married September 7, 1910, Concord, New Hampshire).
While Roberts was still at home, his family moved to Brandon, Vermont, and from there to Concord, New Hampshire, where he graduated from Concord High School.
He then studied at a boys’ preparatory school in Plymouth, New Hampshire; graduated from Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut; and completed theological studies at the University of Oxford, England.
While in England, he spent vacation time in the slums of East London, working at Oxford House under Arthur Winnington-Ingram (later Bishop of London).
Upon return to America, Roberts served five years as a missionary in Spokane, Washington. He was ordained in 1898, and later became canon of All Saints’ Church in Spokane. He founded St. Stephen’s School in Spokane, and was associated for two years with a church in Chelan, Washington.
He then traveled in the Hawaiian Islands. Returning to the mainland due to poor health, he was placed in charge of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Barre, Vermont. Later, he was rector at St. Ann’s Church, Dorchester (Dorset?), Vermont, then served at St. Mark’s Church, Augusta, Maine, for eight years.
From there he went to Westboro (?), where he was rector of St. Stephen’s Church (possibly St. Stephen the Martyr Episcopal Church, Waterboro, Maine).
In World War I, he performed community work in Petersburg, Virginia, where he became popular due to his philanthropic work.
Roberts was a Mason, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Veterans.
